Dear LMEC Families,
It is with great excitement that I write this letter of introduction to you as one of your new Associate Principals of LMEC. I am honored to have the opportunity to help lead a school with such persevering students, committed staff, and a supportive school community. I feel very fortunate to be part of this school and to support the staff, students, and families. My official start date was on July 1. I have enjoyed meeting students who have attended summer school, exploring the school, and getting to know the wonderful staff members at LMEC!
I was born and raised in South East San Diego to a family of 5. I discovered my passion for serving youth during college as I worked as an Educator Director then Teen Director at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Las Vegas. By way of Teach for America, I received my Masters
in Curriculum & Instruction and have dedicated a little over ten years to the field of education. I am thrilled to bring my skills as an educator and leader to LMEC and to work with you as a partner in education.
I view education as a life-long process and expect that I will continue to learn much about the uniqueness of the LMEC community this year and in the years to come. Most importantly, I believe that students are at the center of all school-related decisions. I am excited to unite my experience, my openness to learn, and my student-centered approach to support our students. I am beyond excited to be a part of the LMEC family and look forward to meeting all of you.
Melissa Rowland
Associate Principal, 9th and 10th
