Discover Career Pathways at LMEC High
SDUSD CCTE Website
At LMEC High, we're committed to preparing our students for success beyond graduation — and our partnership with San Diego Unified's College, Career and Technical Education (CCTE) program is a big part of how we do it. CCTE pathways give LMEC students the chance to explore real careers, earn industry-recognized certifications, and even gain college credit while still in high school. These aren't just electives — they're sequenced, hands-on programs taught by industry-experienced educators and connected to local employers, colleges, and community partners across San Diego.
We invite our LMEC families and neighbors to learn more about three of the exciting pathways available to our students:
Patient Care prepares students for the fast-growing healthcare field through coursework in medical terminology, anatomy, patient care skills, and clinical practice. Students at LMEC have opportunities to earn certifications like CPR and First Aid, participate in internships at local hospitals and clinics, and build a strong foundation for careers in nursing, allied health, and medicine.
Engineering challenges students to think like problem-solvers and innovators. Through project-based courses in engineering design, robotics, and computer-aided design (CAD), LMEC students gain the technical and collaborative skills that today's STEM employers — and top universities — are looking for.
Animal Science offers a hands-on introduction to veterinary medicine, animal biology, husbandry, and agricultural systems. Students work directly with animals, learn from veterinary professionals, and explore careers ranging from veterinary technician to wildlife conservation and agricultural science.
We believe every student deserves a clear pathway to a meaningful future, and we're proud to bring these opportunities right here to LMEC. Community members, families, and prospective students are encouraged to reach out to our CCTE coordinator or stop by during one of our upcoming pathway showcases to see our students in action.
